Grant Description
Grants of up to $7,500 to Connecticut nonprofits and government agencies for projects that strengthen underserved communities. Funding is intended to expand access to resources, address behavioral health and substance abuse prevention among youth, reduce loneliness and isolation among seniors, and help meet basic needs such as food, housing, transportation, education, and family support. Funded programs must benefit the residents of West Hartford.

Projects that address any of the following focus areas will receive priority consideration: 

  • Projects that focus on promoting equity in underserved communities and connecting people in underserved communities with available resources. 
  • Projects that focus on addressing behavioral health, mental health, and substance abuse prevention particularly in youth. 
  • Projects that promote the mitigation of loneliness and isolation, particularly in senior citizens. 
  • Projects that focus on addressing basic needs such as, but not limited to, food, toiletries, housing assistance, educational or family support, and transportation.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
• Organizations with a 501(c)3 designation as a public charity, private operating foundations, or those fiscally sponsored by an entity with a 501(c)3 designation.
• Municipalities and other local governmental agencies seeking funding for purposes not typically funded by public revenue sources (including taxpayer contributions).
• Religious organizations seeking support for non-religious purposes that do not include efforts to convert or influence participants’ religious beliefs.

Groups comprised of town residents may prepare an application in partnership with an organization with a 501(c)3 designation that has agreed to serve as a fiscal sponsor for the proposed project.

Organizations with the following characteristics will receive priority consideration:
Small or emerging organizations that focus on building a more equitable West Hartford with annual budget under $3M.
Ineligible
Private non-operating foundations and 501(c)4 organizations are not eligible.

Individuals not connected to an organization or fiscal sponsor, for-profit businesses, and civic organizations engaging in partisan work.
